Checklist: how to find out if an employer suits you
Are you about to have an interview for a new job or assignment? Ask yourself and the employer a few key questions first. Because, of course, 'love' is a two-way street. How many questions do you answer 'yes'?
1. Is there a good click?
If you can rely on anything, it's your gut feeling. So, listen to that carefully. Having a good feeling about the organisation you will work for, gives good energy from the start. 'The click' may be an elusive phenomenon, but when you feel it, you know it at once.
2. Are you being challenged enough?
If you care about personal growth in your career, express your wishes during the interview. For example, is there a training budget? Or is there space to develop new skills? Challenges add depth to your working relationship as well as boosting your personal growth. This will not only make you happy, but your client too.
At Maandag®, we offer plenty of training courses within our Maandag® Academy, for example.
3. Do you feel confident?
Trust is a foundation you can build on. And it's best to put that in black and white. Are you getting concrete answers to your questions? Make sure the agreements you make with your employer are established, for example, in a permanent contract.
4. Are you being listened to?
Listening is often more important than talking. Is your new client considering your situation? Do you hear your input sufficiently reflected in the conversation? Check whether the assignment really fits your profile and does not deal too much in generalities.
It is also good to know who you can turn to with questions once the assignment is underway.
At Maandag®, you always have a direct contact person you can turn to, who will call, send you an email or app regularly to see how things are going. This contact person will also support you during a first interview for a new assignment, to ensure you and the client are a good match.
5. Does the client offer you what you consider important?
What values do you find important? For example, freedom, flexibility or challenges? Prior to the introductory meeting, think about what you find important in your work. That enables you to create a checklist in your head so that you ask the right questions and get a good picture of the organisation. For example, do you find it more important to focus on the terms of employment, or do you place more value on training opportunities or the types of colleagues you will work with?
